Transform your culinary career with CMTN’s West Coast Culinary Diploma. This experiential program will prepare students for a career as a Chef with an understanding of local food source harvesting and processing. Entrenched in cultures of the West Coast and with a focus on food source to table curriculum, this program engages students in the kitchen and on the land. Students learn from experienced Red Seal Chefs in our modern CMTN kitchen as well as those who hold extensive cultural knowledge.
A career as a Chef holds many exciting and challenging opportunities. From fine dining establishments to food trucks and work camps Graduates of this program are prepared for a variety careers in the kitchen.

Requirements to obtain a West Coast Culinary Diploma:
Successful completion of PCOOKAP1, PCOOKAP 2, WCCD 10201, WCCD 10202, WCEX 10201 along with two of the elective courses.
Students who have successfully completed Professional Cook Level 1 and Professional Cook Level 2 within the past 9 years are eligible to qualify for the West Coast Culinary Diploma by successfully completing the required courses.
Minimum of 70% is required in all courses.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 12 OR Mature Student
- English Studies 10, English First Peoples 10 or equivalent AND
- Apprenticeship & Workplace Math 10 (AWM 10) or higher
- OR Successful completion of a CAT Assessment
All admission requirements must be met in advance of enrolment
This diploma has an essential co-op work placement that students must complete in order to graduate. The co-op placement (work internship) means that students can earn a wage while working outside the classroom in order to meet the graduation requirements of the program.
Co-op work placement
The co-op work placement is required to fulfill the program requirement.
For international students, to participate in the co-op work placement, you are required to have a valid co-op work permit. If work is a required part of your program of study, you must have a co-op work permit before you start your work. You are not allowed to use the co-op work permit to work outside these approved terms even if the permit is still valid. Your co-op placement or internship totals 50% or less of your study program.
You are encouraged to start your application for a co-op work permit as soon as you receive an official letter of acceptance confirming that the co-op work placement is required for your program of study. Q: Do I need to purchase all the books and supplies listed for this program? (Such as textbooks, uniforms, equipment, tools, etc.)
A: Yes, it is mandatory to purchase all the books, supplies and tools required for this program. Without the required textbooks and the right tools, you will not be able to participate in this program.
Q: What does my typical class schedule look like for this program?
A: This program involves 6 hours of class per day, and it runs 5 days per week. The class times typically involve early morning sessions (7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.) and the occasional evening for experiential learning opportunities such as catering.
Q: Should I live on campus?
A: The WCC Diploma program is offered at the Terrace campus and it involves early morning class sessions. To meet the program expectations, students are expected to show up to all class sessions. If you do not have access to a vehicle, we highly recommend you to stay in the student housing at the Terrace campus. Public transit does not run early enough for students to arrive for the 7:00 a.m. class start time. Students are required to apply for student housing prior to your program start date (preferably 2-3 months prior). Learn more about student housing.
Q: Can I transfer out to another program once I arrive in Terrace?
A: The credits of this program cannot be transferred to another program at CMTN. Your program fee may not be refundable if you decided to shift or transfer to another program. You may start an entire new program at CMTN, however, none of the credits of this program can be transferred, and a new full program fee will be applied.
We recommend students to plan ahead before applying to the program.
Q: As an international student, what do I need to be involved in the co-op work placement (as part of the program)?
A: To work full time in Canada for a term or two for the essential co-op work component as part of this program, you are required to have a co-op work permit. You are encouraged to start your application for a co-op work permit as soon as you receive an official letter of acceptance confirming that the co-op work placement is required for your program of study. You are highly encouraged to apply for a co-op work permit at the same time when applying for your study permit prior to your arrival to Canada.
