PSYC 205 Drugs and Substance Use
3 Credits

This course introduces properties of drugs from psychopharmacological perspectives. Following an overview of drug use and society, effects of various drugs on the brain and behaviours are examined. In addition, treatment of substance-related disorders are studied. Classes of drugs studied include depressants (e.g., alcohol), stimulants (e.g., cocaine), hallucinogens (e.g., psilocybin) in addition to antidepressants and antipsychotics. Whenever possible learners are encouraged to engage in cross-cultural analysis of psychological phenomena through an Indigenous lens.
