EDUA 105 Intro to Exceptionalities & Inclusion

This course explores societal values and attitudes towards persons requiring extra support in education. A brief historical view of how the educational system in Canada, and, Canadian society in general, responded to exceptionalities will be explored. The principles of inclusion will be examined in relation to its contributions to the field of Education Assistant (EA). Various learning exceptionalities, their causes, and their impact on children in in the classroom and in school life will be examined. Challenging behaviors in the classroom and in school life will be identified and discussed. A basic understanding of strategies, both environmental and interactive, which facilitate child development will be provided. This course takes an inclusive approach to managing challenging behaviors of children through meaningful assessment, and compassionate and effective intervention and guidance strategies.
