ANTH 210 First Nations Art of the Northwest Coast
3 Credits

This course is an overview of northwest coast First Nations art. Art forms from prior to contact through to the contemporary period will be examined. Specific topics will include the style and symbolic elements of northwest coast art, the relationship between northwest coast First Nations art forms and the social, religious and political economic structures of the producing cultures. The place of northwest coast art in museums and in the marketplace shall also be examined. Some videos, a museum tour, and a village field trip, as well as visits from artists shall be included.
