ASIA 101 Introduction to Imperial China

This course traces the history and cultural traditions of Imperial China from the construction of the Great Wall to the last emperor. We will study the geography, imperial political system and cyclical nature of history in China while examining the underlying culture, religion, art, and lifestyle of the Chinese people over the last 2000 years. ASIA 102 The History of Modern China
3 Credits

Study of modern Chinese history from the collapse of the last dynasty in 1911 through the end of the twentieth century. Key areas of study will include the warlord period, the rise of communism, World War II and the emergence of capitalist China. Time will be spent studying important elements of Chinese culture. We will see how traditional elements of Chinese society continue to exist and influence modern China. (3,0,0)
